Run your first session
Mis à jour 25 mai 2026
What you need to host your first online game: campaign setup, the virtual tabletop, and the day-of tools (token placement, dice rolls, fog of war).
1
Know what a Game Master does on Fabled
A quick glossary entry covering what's reserved for the GM versus what every player can do.
— The Game Master. The player who runs a Campaign, controls NPCs, and adjudicates the rules. Every Campaign has exactly one GM.
2
Create the campaign
Pick a ruleset, name the campaign, and invite your players. Schedule the first session from the campaign settings.
— Open the Campaigns list, run through the creation wizard, and land on your new campaign's detail page ready to invite players.
3
Set up the virtual tabletop
Tour the virtual tabletop. Covers boards, tokens, the dice roller, fog of war, and the chat panel.
— Open your campaign's Virtual Tabletop and orient yourself: where the toolbar lives, what each tool group does, and how the map canvas is laid out.
4
Prepare a board for the session
Upload a battlemap, drop in walls + lights so dynamic vision works, and stage the first encounter's tokens off-screen.
— Open a campaign board in The Forge, arrange scenes and elements on the canvas, and quick-launch into the Virtual Tabletop when the board is ready.
5
Run the session
Day-of-play checklist: open the campaign, push the players to the right board, and lean on the chat + dice roller for the rest.
— Enter the Virtual Tabletop as the GM, orient on the toolbar and stage, and learn the in-session controls that drive play: dice, ping, drawing, fog, and the player panel.
