New to Fabled? This path covers profile setup, the core vocabulary, and creating your first campaign and character. Expect about 25 to 45 minutes from start to your first session, depending on your game system.

1

Get the lay of the land

Read the Fabled overview. It introduces the three layers (frameworks, frames, and elements) that everything else builds on.

Overview

— Fabled is a virtual tabletop for tabletop role-playing games. The Forge is where you build characters, rules, and worlds; the table is where your group plays them.

2

Set up your profile

Add a display name, avatar, and banner so other players can recognise you across campaigns.

Edit your profile

— Update your display name, headline, bio, and avatar from the Edit Profile window. Changes appear across Fabled once you save.

3

Learn what a Framework is

Frameworks are the visual blueprints that drive every game system in Fabled. Skim this concept page so the next two steps make sense.

Frameworks

— A framework is the rules layer of Fabled. It defines what a kind of game object looks like, how it behaves, and how its values fall out of its inputs. Every element on the platform sits on top of a framework.

4

Create your first campaign

Pick a ruleset, name your campaign, and invite a couple of players. You can change everything later.

Create a campaign

— Open the New campaign window from the Campaigns page, choose a game, then name your campaign and write its pitch.

5

Roll up a character

Walk the character wizard end-to-end. The wizard adapts to whichever framework your campaign is using.

Create a character

— Walk the character creator wizard to set up a new character: pick a game system, choose a creation method, fill in identity and stats, and save.

6

Visit the virtual tabletop

Open the campaign's board view, drop a token, and try the dice roller. You're now ready for your first session.

Tour the virtual tabletop

— Open your campaign's Virtual Tabletop and orient yourself: where the toolbar lives, what each tool group does, and how the map canvas is laid out.
