Create a character
Step 1: Select a game system
On the Characters page, click NEW CHARACTER. The GAME step lists the official games you can build a character for.
Click the card for the game your character belongs to. The rest of the steps adapt to the game you pick.
Step 2: Choose a creation method
On the next screen, under HOW WOULD YOU LIKE TO CREATE YOUR CHARACTER?, two options appear.
Click Simple to use the game's built-in character template. This is the recommended choice for a first character.
Click Advanced if you want to start from a custom framework instead.
Step 3: Name your character and pick a token image
Under CREATE YOUR CHARACTER, type your character's name into the name field.
Click Select Preset below the name field to choose a token image. This small portrait represents your character on the virtual tabletop. Select a built-in preset with one click, or upload your own image.
Step 4: Fill in the core ability scores
The ABILITY SCORES step asks for your character's six ability scores. With Standard Array, pick a value for each ability from its menu. The numbers 15, 14, 13, 12, 10 and 8 are each used once.
The abilities depend on your game. For D&D 5e they are Strength, Dexterity, Constitution, Intelligence, Wisdom and Charisma.
Step 5: Save the character
When every required field is filled, click CREATE CHARACTER at the bottom of the last step.
Fabled saves the character and opens it in The Forge.
Step 6: Review the character sheet
The character opens on the SHEET tab. At the top are their name, level, class and species, then their portrait, hit points, armor class, initiative and speed, followed by saving throws, death saves and ability scores. The LEDGER tab sits beside SHEET.
The new character also appears under Personal Content in The Forge sidebar, together with its portrait and token images.
