Campaigns and sessions

Two containers hold your work at the table. A campaign is the long-running game, over months or years. A session is one evening of play inside it. Both have a name and a player list, which is why they get mixed up. They hold different kinds of state.

What lives on the campaign

Anything that should outlive one evening belongs on the campaign. A campaign's page has tabs for its main parts: Overview, Calendar, Sessions, Boards, Homebrew and Cosmetics, plus Members and Settings.

  • Members and invites. Players you add show up for every future session. Invite them by email or share link. See Invite players to a campaign.
  • Characters. Characters are assigned to the campaign.
  • Boards and world content. The boards, cards and Forge content you share with the party. See Boards, lanes and cards.
  • Homebrew. The custom rules and content the campaign uses.
  • Cosmetics. Dice and border choices for this campaign. See Cosmetics.
  • Permissions. Who can see or change shared content. See Permissions.
  • The chat and roll log. These belong to the campaign, not to a session. One continuous log carries forward across sessions, so a player who joins late can scroll back through it.

What lives on the session

A session is one evening of play. It uses the campaign's content, with the live table on top: the current scene, the live map and tokens, and the turn order when combat is running.

You can schedule a session from the Sessions tab, and see upcoming sessions on the Calendar tab. To find a date that suits everyone, members can set their availability and you can create a poll. See Set your availability. The campaign can also record and summarise sessions with AI session notes. Turn this on in the campaign's settings.

Campaign lifecycle

A campaign's status moves as you play: Created, In progress and Ended. You do not manage these by hand.

When a campaign is finished or you want to put it away, Archive it. An archived campaign moves to Archived and nobody can open it, players included, until you restore it. Archiving frees a slot against your plan's campaign limit. Restoring needs a free slot, so you may need to archive another campaign or upgrade first. See Subscriptions and tiers.

Only the campaign's owner can archive or restore it. See GM and player roles.
