Step 1: Locate the floating toolbar

Open your campaign and enter the Virtual Tabletop. The toolbar (badge 1) floats above the map in a drag-handled column.

Grab the drag handle at the top of the column to reposition the toolbar anywhere on screen. The toolbar groups every tool into one place: selection, movement, drawing, measuring, fog, lighting, visibility, and dice.

Fog and lighting controls are visible only to the GM. Players see the toolbar without those buttons.

Step 2: Identify each tool button

Scan the tools column (badge 2) from top to bottom. Each button maps to one capability:

  • Pointer: select and move elements on the map.
  • Hand: pan the canvas without picking up tokens.
  • Ping: drop a temporary marker to draw attention to a location.
  • Pencil: sketch freehand lines directly on the map.
  • Ruler: measure distances between two points.
  • Fog and Lighting (GM only): shape what players can see.

Hover any button to read its tooltip and confirm which tool you are about to activate.

Step 3: Orient yourself on the map canvas

The map canvas (badge 3) fills the rest of the screen. Tokens, drawings, and fog render here in layers above the map background.

Pan by activating the Hand tool and dragging, or by holding the middle mouse button and dragging at any time. Zoom in and out with the scroll wheel.
